Hibiscus Coast Gateway Concept

Gateway to the Hibicus Coast.

The Concept Plan outlined in this document is designed to create a new "front door" to the Hibiscus Coast by carefully planning the way development occurs on the edge of the urban area adjacent to the motorway access from the south. It is based on an initial concept prepared for the Council by GHD, Isthmus Group and Diane Brand. The plan has two main components:

  • A landmark Hibiscus Coast Highway Avenue and interchange that celebrates the character of the Hibiscus Coast and creates a strong sense of arrival.

  • The opportunity to integrate a new "Gateway Zone" with the Hibiscus Coast Highway avenue. It is proposed that this be a recreation and entertainment village type precinct nestled within a woodland landscape, helping to frame the entrance to the Hibiscus Coast Highway. It is considered that this broad type of activity if managed carefully, will readily enable the objective of creating a high quality gateway and will complement activities that have already chosen this area in which to locate.
